Ingredients

Cajun fries recipe ingredients:

  • 2-3 large Russet Potatoes - 24 oz or approximately 680 grams, cut into 1/4” fries (or use frozen fries)
  • 2 tablespoons 32 grams coconut oil or olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon 12 grams brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

How to make Cajun fries air fryer instructions

  • Wash and dry the potatoes thoroughly. Cut them into 1/4” strips, then pat dry with a paper towel. Place the strips in a large bowl and toss with the melted coconut oil until evenly coated. Transfer the coated potatoes to an air fryer basket.
  • Air fry the potatoes at 400ºF for 20 minutes, or until they start to turn golden brown. (No need to shake the basket during cooking.)
  • While the potatoes are cooking, combine the remaining ingredients in a small bowl.
  • Once the initial cooking is done, transfer the potatoes back to the large bowl and toss with half to three-quarters of the spice mixture. Return the potatoes to the air fryer basket and cook for an additional 4-6 minutes at 400ºF. After frying, toss the fries with the remaining spices and some parsley, if you like. Serve immediately and enjoy!

How to make Cajun fries with frozen fries

    Preheat the Air Fryer:

    • Preheat your air fryer to 400ºF (200ºC) for a few minutes.

    Prepare the Frozen Fries:

    • Place the frozen fries in a large bowl. Drizzle with 2 tablespoons (32 grams) of melted coconut oil or olive oil, and toss to coat evenly.

    Air Fry the Frozen Fries:

    • Transfer the coated fries to the air fryer basket, spreading them out in a single layer.
    • Air fry for 15-20 minutes at 400ºF, shaking the basket halfway through, until the fries are golden brown and crispy.

    Mix the Spices:

    • While the fries are cooking, mix the following spices in a small bowl:
1 tablespoon (12 grams) brown sugar, 2 teaspoons smoked paprika, 1 teaspoon kosher salt, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon onion powder, 1 teaspoon dried oregano, 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes, 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, and 1 teaspoon ground thyme

    Season the Fries:

    • Once the fries are done, transfer them back to the large bowl and toss with half to three-quarters of the spice mixture.

    Final Air Fry:

    • Return the seasoned fries to the air fryer basket and air fry for an additional 2-4 minutes at 400ºF to ensure the spices are well combined and the fries are extra crispy.

    Serve:

    • After the final air frying, toss the fries with the remaining spices and some parsley if desired. Serve immediately and enjoy!

How to make oven-baked Cajun fries Instructions:

      Preheat the Oven:

      • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil for easy cleanup.

      Prepare the Potatoes:

      • Cut the potato into thin fries, about 1/4 inch thick. You can leave the skin on for added texture and nutrients. Pat the fries dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture.

      Season the Fries:

      • In a large bowl, toss the potato fries with olive oil until evenly coated. Sprinkle Cajun seasoning over the fries and toss again to coat evenly. Adjust the amount of seasoning based on your preference for spiciness.

      Arrange on Baking Sheet:

      • Spread the seasoned fries in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Make sure they are not overlapping to ensure even cooking and crispy texture.

      Bake in the Oven:

      • Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, flipping the fries halfway through cooking. This helps to ensure they crisp up evenly on both sides.

      Check for Doneness:

      • Remove the fries from the oven when they are golden brown and crispy on the outside, and tender on the inside. Sprinkle with a little extra salt if desired.

      Serve:

      • Transfer the Cajun fries to a serving dish and garnish with chopped parsley or green onions if using. Serve hot as a delicious snack or side dish.

      Notes

1 Serving is approximately 250 calories.
I used a 6.5-quart Air Fryer for air frying. It's important to note that different air fryers, especially those larger or smaller in size, might need slight adjustments to cooking times. I recommend not trying to make a large batch of fries in a smaller air fryer, as it becomes difficult to get them all crispy.

      Tips for Oven-Baked Cajun Fries:

Even Cooking: Ensure the fries are spread out in a single layer with space between them on the baking sheet. This allows hot air to circulate around each fry, promoting even cooking and crispiness.
Adjust Seasoning: Feel free to adjust the amount of Cajun seasoning according to your taste preferences. You can also add other spices or herbs for additional flavor.
Serve Immediately: Oven-baked fries are best served immediately while they are still hot and crispy. If they sit for too long, they may lose their crispiness.
By following these simple steps, you can enjoy delicious Cajun fries baked in the oven, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, with all the bold flavors of Cajun seasoning.
