Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 200°C (390°F).
Prepare the Bread: Cut the baguette in half. Then, slice it almost all the way through into 2cm (about ¾ inch) thick pieces.
Make the Garlic Butter: In a bowl, combine the melted butter, grated garlic, grated Parmesan (if using), salt, and chopped parsley. Mix well and taste to adjust the saltiness and garlic intensity according to your preference.
Spread the Garlic Butter: Generously spread the garlic butter mixture over the cut sides of the bread, ensuring you reach the bottom of each slit—don’t hold back!
Apply Remaining Butter: Use any leftover garlic butter to smear over the top and sides of the bread for added flavor.
Wrap in Foil: Tightly wrap each half of the bread in aluminum foil.
Bake the Bread: Place the wrapped bread in the oven and bake for 15 minutes, or until the crust feels crispy (you can check through the foil). If you’re adding mozzarella, gently open each slit using an offset spatula or spoon and tuck in slices of mozzarella—it’s okay if some cheese peeks out from the top. Return the bread to the oven and bake for an additional 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the top is golden.
Serve: Remove the bread from the oven and slice it with a serrated knife, or tear it apart with your hands. Serve immediately while warm.
Enjoy your cheesy garlic bread!
