These chewy M&M cookies are a sure favorite at any party, with kids and adults alike. I like to serve them at every BBQ all summer long, because the colorful cookies look amazing as a party spread.

Cookies trick

This cookie recipe is unusual in that it uses salted butter rather than unsalted butter. The reason for this came about by a happy accident. I realized I only had salted butter in my refrigerator and decided to just try making my regular M&M cookie recipe with the salted butter…and it turned into one of the best mistakes I have ever made in the kitchen. Using salted butter to make these cookies somehow make them extra soft and chewy and completely delicious.
You can use salted or unsalted butter as you prefer. Both ways work in this recipe – there’s really no going wrong.

What’s great abouty the best Chewy Monster cookies recipe:

  • Everything, and I mean everything, They’re soft, chewy and deliciously decadent
  • Loaded with chocolate chips and M&M’s
  • Full of amazing peanut butter flavors
  • Vegetarian
  • Meal prep friendly – can be frozen and reheated later

Peanut Butter Alternative

If you’re one of the unlucky people that happen to be allergic to peanut butter, fear not, because I have a just as delicious alternative ready just for you. Replace the peanut butter in the recipe with creamy almond butter (or even cashew butter). Using almond butter still gives you the wonderful nutty flavor that makes this recipe stand out, and helps give it that soft and chewy texture we all crave.

So how are the best Chewy Monster Cookies made? It’s so easy:

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350F (180C). Line a baking tray with baking paper.
  • Whisk together flour, rolled oats, baking soda and salt in a large mixing bowl. Set aside.
  • In a second large bowl, use a whisk or an electric mixer to whisk together the softened butter with the brown sugar and granulated sugar. Once the butter/sugar mixture is creamy add the vanilla extract and peanut butter and mix until combined.
  • Next, mix a little of the flour into the butter mix at a time, making sure it gets stirred together well in between adding more. When you have mixed in all the flour, add the M&M’s and the chocolate chips and gently stir them into the dough until they are evenly dispersed. Use a tablespoon to scoop the cookie dough into small 1,5 inch balls and place them on the lined baking tray, making sure to leave sufficient room for the cookies to spread while baking.
  • Bake the cookies in the oven for 10-12 minutes or until the top of the cookies are set and they are just turning golden brown. Remove the cookies from the oven and allow them to cool on the baking tray for 10 minutes. Let the cookies cool completely before eating and enjoy.
