Equipment needed to make vegan gummies

4 silicone gummy bear molds – This delicious chewy gummies recipe without gelatin makes a lot of gummies so you need a lot of molds. I find 4 gummy bear molds work really well for this recipe amount. You only need the molds if you’re making these tasty gummies into gummy bears or worms. If you don’t have gummy bear molds and don’t want to wait, you can make the recipe as gummy rolls.

A baking sheet – if you’re making gummy rolls rather than gummy bears you need 1-2 baking sheets lined with baking parchment.

A large mixing bowl – to mix all the ingredients together.

A juicer or blender – if you’re making all-natural gummy rolls without agar agar you need a juicer to purée the fresh berries. For making agar agar gummies you don’t need a juicer as long as you’re buying ready-made juice.

A small saucepan – to heat the mixture and activate the congealing process you need a non-stick pot or small saucepan.

Two ways to make vegan gummies in a few easy steps

These are the best two Sugar-free vegan gummy bears recipes that make’s delicious perfect chewy gummy bears every time.

Natural unsweetened vegan gummies ingredients

Agar agar powder – agar agar powder is a plant-based gelatin that is perfect for making gelatin-free gummies…and its the secret to making the perfect chewy vegan gummy bears. The agar agar powder is what is going to make the vegan gummy bears gel up and become solid and chewable just like traditional gummies! Make sure to get powder NOT flakes or else this recipe won’t work well! You can get agar agar powder at most well-assorted health food stores or do as I do and buy it on Amazon.

Recipe 1 for the perfect chewy vegan gummies – the best vegan gummies that’s everyones favorite treats

Perfect chewy Gluten-free gummy bears with agar agar key ingredients

  • 1 cup fruit juice (store-bought or homemade juice of your choice and flavor)
  • 2 teaspoons Agar-Agar powder [Powder, NOT flakes!]
  • 2-3 tablespoons sweetener [sugar/maple syrup/agave or your choice]

Recipe 2 for making natural chewy vegan gummies

For natural vegan gummies without sugar, you need these easy-to-get ingredients

Berries – fresh strawberries, fresh raspberries, and fresh blueberries are my favorite berries. For this easy all natural ingredients unsweetened gluten-free vegan gummies you need about one pack of fresh berries (around 350g).

Note: I’ve only tried using fresh berries for making gummies, so I don’t know if frozen berries will work. Theoretically, it should work but the gummies may need to bake a little longer to give the extra liquid a chance to evaporate and make the gummies get the best gummies texture.

Lemon juice – lemon juice adds freshness and a balance of flavors between the natural sweetness of the berries and the tart lemon juice. Alternatively, you can use lime juice.

Maple syrup – or your choice of natural sweetener. This is optional and you can easily leave it out, but as I have a sweet tooth I like to add maple syrup and drizzle my gummy rolls with coconut sugar.

Optional flavor combinations to jazz up your vegan gummies

You can make these delicious vegan gummies even better by adding different flavors. Here are some of my favorite natural vegan gummies flavor combinations:

Strawberries and lime juice – the lime juice balances out the sweetness of the strawberries and makes this flavor combination irresistibly tasty.

Raspberries and fresh basil – this combo gives the vegan gummies a little hint of cinnamon sweetness from the basil that is amazing with the raspberries

Peaches and fresh mint leaves – the sweet peaches and the fresh mint bring out the best in each other. Such a great option for a fun and flavorful vegan gummy with a twist.

Different colors and flavors for the perfect sweet treats without artificial flavours

A flavor kick – You can add a little licorice powder to your own gummies to make them a delicious vegan licorice snack or give them an adult twist with a little alcohol in the gummy mixture.

Intense color – For intense colors, you can use natural food coloring to bring out the greens, reds, or purples in the gluten-free gummies.

Sweetness galore – For a sweet fruity flavor treat you can roll or dip the gummies in sugar (I like to use coconut sugar, but any granulated sugar will work well). You can even mix in a little citrus to give the sugar a zesty kick to the gummy treats that will delight your taste buds.

How to make chewy agar agar vegan gummies

  • Place the gummy bear molds on a large plate or tray ready to fill (this tray is going into the refrigerator so make sure it fits). If you’re making gummy rolls line 2 baking sheets with baking parchment and set aside.
  • Now, place juice, sweetener, and agar agar powder in a small saucepan and bring to a quick boil while stirring. It should take 5-6 minutes.
  • Let the juice mixture boil for a minute while stirring before removing it from the heat. Leave the mixture to cool for 5-10 minutes. It should be hot when it’s poured into the molds but not super hot so it’s scalding.

Note: don’t wait too long as the gummy mixture will start to harden as it cools down. If you’re making gummy rolls you want the mixture just a little thicker so it spreads out easily while still maintaining the thickness.

Making the gummy bears

  • Next, use the dropper that came with the gummy bear molds (or carefully use a spoon if you prefer) to transfer the gummy liquid into the molds filling them up all the way.
  • Place the molds on the tray in the refrigerator for 10-20 minutes while the gummy bears cool and harden. Once the plant-based gummy bears are hardened, take the mold out of the refrigerator and pop them out onto a plate or into a clean jar or container.
  • Repeat with all your desired flavorings until you have a large batch of gummies.
  • Super easy way to make natural unsweetened vegan gummies
  • Preheat oven to 100 degrees Celsius and line a baking sheet with baking parchment.
  • Rinse the berries and cut any leaves off. Transfer the berries to a blender or juicer and add the lemon juice. Blend until the berries are a smooth purée.
  • Pour the berry mixture into a small saucepan and heat at medium heat for around 10 minutes while stirring occasionally.
  • Next, pour the berry purée onto the lined baking sheet and spread it out into a thin even layer. Bake the berry purée in the middle of the oven for 2-3 hours depending on how long it takes for the liquid to evaporate.

How to know when the gummies are done

  • After two hours of baking check the gummies. Press a finger on the berry purée. If the mixture sticks a little the gummies need to bake longer. If you can touch and press down gently on the gummies with anything sticking to your fingers then they are ready.
  • Note: be careful not to overbake the gummies as it will make them dry and crunchy.
  • Remove the gummies from the oven and use a sharp knife to slice them into long strips. You can drizzle with your choice of sugar or just roll the gummies into gummy rolls.
  • Store in a clean jar with a lid for 5-7 days.

Making agar agar gummies as gummy rolls

Once you’ve made the gummy mixture and have left it to cool and thicken a bit, you are ready to make the gummy rolls. Pour and scrape the gummy mixture onto the lined baking sheets and use a spatula or knife to spread it out evenly in your desired thickness. (You can top with sugar or other spices at this point if you want).

Place the baking sheets in the refrigerator and leave the gummies to cool and harden for 10-20 minutes. Remove the gummies from the fridge and use a sharp knife to slice them into long strips. You can drizzle with your choice of sugar or just roll the gummies into gummy rolls.
