The Best Pizza Dough Recipes Ever

Okay, so this blog post has been a long time coming. I’ve been meaning to write it for month, but just haven’t had time to sit down and get it done.
Well, today is the day. I’m putting pen to paper, or more accutately, I’m tapping away at my keyboard to bring you the best pizza dough recipes ever.
There are a few amazing pizza dough recipes and I use them all depending on how much time I have on my hands.
The first Pizza dough I stumbled upon that I instantly loved was a Jamie Oliver quick cheat pizza dough. Because I love things that go fast and are incredibly easy to make, while still being insanely delicious of course, I just loved everything about that recipe.
I have since adapted my own version of the original Jamie Oliver quick pizza dough recipe and that’s the first one I’m going to share with you here.

After making the quick pizza dough for a while (which is a completely non traditional take on pizza doughs and I’m sure every Italian would be horrified if they saw it) I began exploring other pizza doughs. I wanted a great Italian style pizza dough that had just the right crust, taste and texture. You know the type, the one that you only usually get in Italy, that somehow surpasses language barriers and food preferances and speaks directly to the heart – sigh. It took a while to find that pizza dough, and of course it required several trips to Italy (and no, I definitely did not use a pizza dough recipe as an excuse to go on several amazing holidays to Italy. Okay, yeah, I did).
And, of course, once I found the Italian style pizza dough of my dreams, I realized I also needed a mouthwatering deep pan pizza dough. So the search continued and many amazing pizzas later, I finally found the deep pan pizza dough that’s become my favorite.

What you’re getting in this collection of the best pizza dough recipes ever:

  • 3 of the best and easiest pizza dough recipes that turns out amazing every time
  • Fluffy and crunchy crusts that are mouthwateringly good
  • My 3 go-to vegan pizza dough recipes – you won’t ever need to look for another pizza dough recipe again
  • The ideal pizza base for any pizza topping you want

So, now that you’ve got the story behind the recipes, let’s dive into the actual details.

Jamie Oliver’s Quick 15-minute pizza dough

First up is my Quick 15 minute pizza dough recipe inspired by Jamie Oliver. It’s pretty much an exact replica of the original Jamie Oliver recipe, except I like to also add a teaspoon of dried oregano to really get that pizza aroma to come through. If you want, you can just leave out the dried oregano and get a more classic pizza dough. Both option taste amazing.
The original recipe says you can only use self-rising flour – no substitutes. But I’ll admit to having tried out substitutes, because desperate times call for desperate measures… And when a girl gets a serious pizza craving and don’t have self-rising flour at home, she gets a little desperate. My substitute worked out well, though. So, if you’re in a pinch and still want to make this pizza dough without the self-rising flour, just use 1 cup regular flour and add 2 teaspoons baking powder. It still works and the results were good enough to be devoured in minutes. Enough said.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Self-Rising Flour
  • ½ cup Water
  • Pinch of Salt
  • 1 tsp Dried Oregano optional
  • 1 tbsp Olive Oil

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400F.
  • Get out your trusty food processor and pour in all the water, olive oil, salt, oregano and only half of the flour. Pulse the food processor until everything is mixed and pour in the rest of the flour.
  • Pulse again until the mixture forms a dough – it should be elastic enough to work with, but not too sticky.
  • Next, cover a clean surface with a little extra flour and roll out the dough into a typical pizza shape. Drizzle a little olive oil into a cast iron skillet and place the pizza in it. Cook the pizza at high heat for around 3-4 minutes, making sure the dough doesn’t get blackened.
  • Top the pizza with all the toppings you want and bake the pizza under the broiler, letting it bake for 4-5 minutes, or until the pizza toppings are done. Serve hot and enjoy.

If you’re ready for even more deliciousness, then take a look at my favorite Italian Style pizza dough recipe. It’s amazing, traditional and just how a pizza dough should be.
This pizza dough is directly from Italy and is literally called “the worlds best pizza dough”. I can only say I agree with that statement. It has the most amazing crust… the only thing that could make it better, was eating it in Italy.
Note: this pizza dough is also great to use for calzones and everything pizza related.

Prep Time 1 hour 15 minutes
Cook Time 10 minutes
Serving Size 1 Pizza

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Water
  • 3 tbsp Active Dry Yeast
  • 6 3/8 cups Tipo 00 Flour or All-purpose Flour
  • 1 tsp Sea Salt
  • 4 tbsp Olive Oil

Instructions

  • Mix together flour and salt in a large mixing bowl.
  • In another mixing bowl, mix together water and yeast. Add 6 tabespoons of the flour and mix that in until everything is combined. Leave the pre dough to relax for 10 minutes.
  • Make a small indentation in the flour and begin to slowly pour in the water, stirring it in a little at a time. At this stage, you should also pour in the olive oil and mix in.
  • Mix in the rest of the flour and stir until the dough is just about holding together. Pour the dough onto a clean, lightly flour dusted countertop and knead the dough for a good 5 minutes. If the dough needs it, you can add a little more flour. It should be elastic, but not so sticky that it clings to everything.
  • Next, roll the dough into a ball and place it back in the mixing bowl. Cut a large x on top and cover the dough with a clean towel. Let it rise until it reaches double size, which should be around 1 hour.
  • Roll the pizza dough into a pizza shape on a lightly flour dusted countertop and top with everything you want.
  • Cook in a preheated oven at 450F for 5-10 minutes or until the dough is cooked and the crust is slightly crispy. Serve hot and enjoy.

The Best Deep Pan Pizza Dough Recipe

Lastly, but definitely not leastly, we have my favorite Deep pan pizza dough. Because every now and then, I just get a craving for deep pan pizzas that have to be fulfilled. And my oh my does this deep pan pizza dough recipe deliver. It’s everything a deep pan pizza should be – thick, full crust and amazing textures. Yum.
Unlike a regular pizza, you don’t have to worry about putting too much topping on a deep pan pizza. The deep pan pizza can handle the extra load and it only makes it more delicious.

To make a really good deep pan pizza, you obviously need a deep pan to cook it in. Making a deep pan pizza is a lot like making a pie. I like to make my deep pan pizzas in a round non-stick baking pan. It allows the sides to rise and gives it that real Chicago Style Deep pan pizza feeling.

Best Deep Pan Pizza Dough Recipe

This deep pan pizza dough recipe is mouthwateringly good. The crust is fluffy, crispy and everything a deep pan pizza should be and the pizza can hold a ton of toppings, so don’t hold back on piling on all your favorites. This recipe is for 4 portion sized pizzas, but alternatively you could just make it into one large pizza if you so desire.
