Making romanesco broccoli steaks
Rinse the broccoli and cut the end or stalk off if needed. Slice the broccoli into 1/2-inch slices (being careful as you cut). There will be smaller florets that fall off when cutting, and you want to save those and grill them along with the steaks – because they are so good and turn into small broccoli wings when grilled.
Next, brush olive oil over the steaks and florets, followed by the vegan BBQ sauce and sweet and sour chilli sauce. Season with dried thyme, salt and pepper and bake in the oven or on the grill.
Cooking on the grill:
Heat the BBQ and place the already seasoned romanesco steaks on the grill. Grill each side for 5-8 minutes or until they are golden at the edges. Place the romanesco florets in a aluminium pan and cook them on the grill next to the steaks for the same 5-8 minutes on each side.
Serve hot and enjoy.
Cooking in the oven:
Preheat oven to 400F and line a baking sheet with baking paper. Place the romanesco broccoli steaks on the lined baking sheet and bake them in the middle of the oven for 10-15 minutes on each side (20-30 minutes total) or until the steaks are golden at the edges.
Serve hot and enjoy.
