Benefits of Detox smoothies
Detox smoothies have so many great benefits. First, of all, detox smoothies are a favorite to boost the metabolism and are stable for weight loss…but this tasty green drink also provides many amazing nutrients that increase heart health and strengthen the immune system.
Here are some of the great benefits of drinking detox smoothies:
Digestive health – the nutrients and fiber in green detox smoothies aid digestion and promote overall well-being and digestive health.
Improves the skin – all the vitamins and minerals in detox smoothies work wonders for the skin. The vitamins have been linked to improved complexion, and healthy skin and may even help prevent and reduce acne.
Energy boost – the rich nutrients in this green smoothie works like a natural vitamin injection. Loaded with fiber, vitamins, and minerals it’s a superfood smoothie that’s been linked to boosting energy levels.
Improves hydration – this tasty drink helps improve hydration which helps stabilize blood sugar levels, improves the skin, and improves overall health and well-being.
Great source of protein – the protein powder and plant milk makes this healthy breakfast smoothie a good source of protein. Getting sufficient protein in your diet is important for muscle function and overall health.
Tips for making the best smoothie
Ice cubes – adding ice cubes makes your smoothie frosty and delicious. Because a cold smoothie is the best kind of smoothie.
Protein powder – use a good quality protein powder to make your smoothie extra delicious. I like to use a vegan vanilla protein powder, but a nice nut-flavored protein powder or a deep-rich chocolate protein powder also works so well. Use your favorite protein powder so you already know you’re going to like the flavor.

Ingredients to make a simple green detox smoothie
- Kiwi Fruits – the kiwi adds a little hint of sweetness and a whole lot of vitamins and minerals.
- 1 Orange – you can use freshly juiced orange juice or get good quality orange juice at the grocery store. To jazz up the flavor you can also use other juices and even try a mixed juice (orange, papaya, and apple juice are one of my favorites).
- Fresh Spinach Leaves – I like to use baby spinach because it has a lighter, less earthy flavor. The spinach adds extra iron and nutrients and makes up extra healthy greens
- Almond Milk – or your favorite plant milk. Other plant milks that work well in smoothies are soy milk, cashew milk, and coconut milk.
- Vanilla Protein Powder – use your favorite protein powder so you’re sure you like the flavor.
- Ice Cubes – the ice cubes make the smoothie extra cold and creamy. Alternatively, you can use frozen berries or frozen plant milk instead of ice cubes.

How to make an easy vegan green protein smoothie with kiwi
- Peel the kiwi fruits and slice them into large chunks.
Squeeze all the juice out of the orange, and pour it into your blender along with the kiwi chunks and the rest of the ingredients.
Blitz until everything is blended and serve.
Make in advance smoothies
Did you know you can make smoothies in advance and freeze them for later? It’s a simple and super easy way to make sure you have a healthy breakfast or snack ready for those busy days.
Top meal prep smoothies tip:
Make a batch for the whole week and freeze it in air-tight sealed containers (such as mason jars).
How to make green protein smoothies in advance
Simply blend all the ingredients together and pour them into clean mason jars or other freezer-safe containers. Add airtight lids and store the smoothies in the freezer for up to 2-3 months! When you’re ready to enjoy, thaw the smoothie out the night before in the refrigerator. Alternatively, you can microwave the smoothies for 30-60 seconds and add ice cubes before drinking if you’re in a hurry.
Green smoothies vs. green juice
Why choose green smoothies over green juice? Both choices are healthy and delicious, but choosing a green smoothie means you will be adding extra fiber and protein to your drink that will help control your blood sugar levels and add extra nutrients.
Smoothies are one of the best and easiest ways to add extra leafy greens and nutrients to your diet while still being a healthy and low-calorie option. They’re rich, more filling than juice, and deliciously creamy.
Jazz up your smoothie
This healthy creamy vegan protein smoothie is amazing as it is…but you can jazz it up, add more ingredients and change up the flavor as much as you want. Use my green protein smoothie recipe as a base and get creative with adding more ingredients and giving it your own twist (and let me know in the comments what your favorite extras are).

Ingredients to jazz up your smoothie
Grated ginger – ginger adds heat and lots of flavors to your smoothie…as well as adds extra nutrients and boosts the immune system.
Chili powder – give your smoothie extra heat by adding a pinch of chili powder. Chili has been linked to boosting the immune system and increasing metabolism.
Fresh herbs – basil, cilantro, or mint, adding fresh herbs is a great way to take your smoothie to the next level.
Berries – berries are like little flavor bombs of vitamins and natural sweetness. You can use frozen berries instead of ice cubes to give your smoothie extra nutrients and a little more sweetness.
Coconut milk – change out the almond milk with coconut milk to get a creamy texture with more natural sweetness.
Lime or lemon juice – make your smoothie fresh and give it a hint of zingy flavor by adding lemon juice or lime juice.
FAQ – all your green protein smoothie questions answered
If you don’t have protein powder on hand, you can add protein in several different ways. You can mix in soy yogurt, 1-2 tablespoons of nuts, nut butter, or seeds. The almond milk already adds a bit of protein, but for more protein, you can substitute the almond milk with soy milk (vanilla soy milk is my favorite as it makes the drink creamy and gives it a little vanilla sweetness).
This tasty protein smoothie is a healthy meal and can be eaten every single day. Switch up the ingredients, add extra fruits and berries, and drink it every day for extra nutrients.
