I’ve been late to get into the air fryer game. But I decided to dive into air fryer cooking after being gifted an air fryer for Christmas…and after trying it out a few times I’m now a huge air fryer fan. So of course I had to try and make jacket potatoes in my air fryer (because I adore jacked potatoes) and my oh my was it a success. 

It turns out that jacket potatoes made in an air fryer are one of the most delicious ways I’ve ever cooked baked potatoes.

My best tip for optimal crispy skin would be to not overcrowd the air fryer. Around three large potatoes or four medium potatoes is probably around the maximum (unless you have a large capacity air fryer with double baskets. In that case you can make double the number of potatoes at once).

Note: I like to use russet potatoes for my baked potatoes but Yukon potatoes or other large baking potatoes will also work well. 

  • Step 1: Start by rinsing your potatoes and lightly padding them dry with a clean towel. 
  • Step 2: poke the potatoes all over with a fork to allow the heat to go into the potatoes more easily.
  • Step 3: lightly brush the potatoes with vegetable oil. Season with salt and pepper and place in the air fryer basket.
  • Step 4: cook the potatoes at 400F (200celcius) for 25 minutes. Be careful not to burn yourself, use a pair of tongs to turn the potatoes over and cook in the air fryer for another 15 minutes or so.

  • Step 2: be careful not to burn yourself, gently flip the potatoes over using a tong and cook another 4-5 minutes.
