Jump to Recipe

This recipe might just be the best easy vegan apple crisp recipe you will ever make. It’s super easy to make and require no special ingredients.

Fall means apple recipes and this easy vegan apple crumble is my vegan version of our family favourite apple crumble recipe.

It’s made simply with apples, sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, rolled oats and vegan butter…with a little extra lemon juice for freshness.

For me, Fall is all about apples. While the rest of the world is focused on everything pumpkin related I’m obsessing about apples. Just give me apple pie, apple cobbler, apple crisp and I’m a very happy girl.

This Vegan Apple Crisp recipe is everything an apple crumble should be. Think crispy, crunchy oats and soft apples covered in cinnamon with a hint of freshness from the lemon juice. It’s so incredibly tasty.

What’s great about this recipe

  • Super easy to make
  • Always a favourite with kids and adults alike
  • Great to cook with children
  • Quick to make
  • Delicious, tasty and loaded with Fall flavours
  • Vegan and can be gluten free

Which apples should you use

I like to use half sweet apples and half tart apples. It makes the dessert a little more fresh. If you don’t have any tart apples you can always add a little extra lemon juice to make it more tart.

If you only have tart apples you can always add a 1-2 tablespoons extra sugar or maple syrup to make sure the apple crisp isn’t too tart.

What sugar should I use in vegan apple crisp

You can use any type of sugar you prefer. I have tried making this recipe with coconut sugar, maple syrup and regular sugar…but my favourite is using half brown sugar and half granulated sugar because it gives the dessert extra depth of flavour and makes it more crispy.

Gluten free vegan apple crisp recipe

Making this apple crisp recipe gluten free is very easy. I like to make it simple by just replacing the rolled oats with gluten free oats but you can also replace the oats with almond flour. The almond flour still makes the crust crispy and gives a lot of the same texture as the rolled oats.

Should I peel the apples

You can peel the apples if you prefer. Because I’m lazy and I want all the nutrients that’s right under the skin of the apples I always leave the skin on. But if you prefer not eating the skin or don’t like the texture you can go right ahead and peel the apples.

How to serve vegan apple crisp

I like to serve my vegan apple crisp with a spoonful of vegan ice cream or a dollop of vegan coconut yogurt. The coolness of the ice cream or yogurt enhances the crispness and melts together with the apples to take this dessert to a whole other level. It’s so incredibly tasty.
